Zoe Saldana is an American actress. She is known for her roles in the films Avatar (2009), Star Trek (2009), Colombiana (2011), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Early life and education

Saldana was born in Passaic, New Jersey to Aridio Saldaña, a Dominican, and Asalia Nazario, a Puerto Rican. She has two sisters, Mariel and Cisely, and a brother, Nipo. Saldana's family moved to the Dominican Republic when she was nine years old. She lived there for seven years before moving to New York City.

Saldana attended the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, where she studied drama. She dropped out after two years to pursue a career in acting.

Career

Saldana's acting career began in the late 1990s with small roles in television shows such as Law & Order and CSI. In 2000, she made her film debut in Center Stage. She went on to appear in films such as Crossroads (2002), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), and The Terminal (2004).

Saldana's breakthrough role came in 2009 when she played Neytiri in Avatar. The film was a huge commercial success, grossing over $2 billion worldwide. Saldana reprised the role in the film's 2022 sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water.

In addition to Avatar, Saldana has starred in a number of other successful films, including Star Trek (2009), Colombiana (2011), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Saldana has also won numerous awards for her work, including a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a BAFTA Award.

Personal life

Saldana is married to Italian artist Marco Perego. The couple have three children together, Cy Aridio and Bowie Ezio Perego-Saldana and Zen Perego-Saldana.

Saldana is a vocal advocate for women's rights and gender equality. She is also a supporter of the LGBTQ community.
