Jacky Cheung Hok-yau (born 12 July 1961) is a Hong Kong singer and actor. Widely regarded as one of the "Four Heavenly Kings" of Cantopop, Cheung is the best-selling Asian artist of all time, with estimated sales of over 25 million copies in Asia alone. He has also won numerous awards, including the Golden Melody Awards for Best Male Vocalist three times and the Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Actor twice.
Cheung was born in Hong Kong on 12 July 1961. He began his career in the entertainment industry in 1984, when he won a singing contest organized by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He released his debut album, "Smile", in 1985, which was a commercial success. In 1986, he released his second album, "Windy Season", which was an even bigger success, selling over 1 million copies in Hong Kong alone.
Cheung's career continued to soar in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He released a string of hit albums, including "True Love Express" (1987), "Don't Cry, My Friend" (1988), and "A Better Tomorrow" (1989). He also began to star in films, making his debut in the 1989 film "A Chinese Ghost Story".
In the mid-1990s, Cheung's career began to decline slightly. He released a number of albums that did not sell as well as his previous ones, and his acting career also suffered. However, he made a comeback in 1999 with the release of his album "Believe". The album was a huge success, selling over 2 million copies in Hong Kong alone.
Since then, Cheung has continued to release successful albums and star in films. He has also become a popular concert performer, touring all over the world. In 2010, he was awarded the Golden Melody Award for Best Male Vocalist for the third time.
