Andy Garcia (born April 12, 1956) is an American actor, director, and producer. He has starred in over 100 films and television shows, and has received numerous awards, including a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA Award, and an Academy Award nomination.
Early life and career
Garcia was born in Havana, Cuba, to Amelie Menocal (née Barba) and René Garcia Núñez. His father was a lawyer and his mother was a homemaker. Garcia has two sisters, Liana and Alina.
Garcia's family fled Cuba in 1961, when he was five years old. They settled in Miami, Florida, where Garcia attended Miami Beach Senior High School. After graduating from high school, Garcia attended Florida International University, where he studied drama.
In 1980, Garcia made his acting debut in the film "The Godfather Part III". He went on to star in several films in the 1980s, including "The Untouchables" (1987), "Internal Affairs" (1990), and "The Godfather Part III" (1990).
Rise to fame
Garcia's career reached new heights in the 1990s. He starred in a number of critically acclaimed films, including "Dead Again" (1991), "Scent of a Woman" (1992), "When a Man Loves a Woman" (1994), and "The Birdcage" (1996).
Garcia's performance in "Scent of a Woman" earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He also won a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA Award for his performance.
Recent work
Garcia has continued to star in films and television shows in recent years. He has appeared in films such as "Ocean's Eleven" (2001), "Ocean's Twelve" (2004), "Ocean's Thirteen" (2007), and "Passengers" (2016).
Garcia has also starred in television shows such as "For the People" (2018-2019) and "Rebel" (2021).
Personal life
Garcia has been married to Marivi Lorido since 1982. They have four children: Dominik, Daniella, Alessandra, and Andie.
Garcia is a Roman Catholic. He is also a supporter of the Democratic Party.
