Rachel Meghan Markle (born August 4, 1981) is an American actress, member of the British royal family, and Duchess of Sussex. She is married to Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, the younger son of King Charles III and Diana, Princess of Wales.

Markle was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She began her acting career in 2002, appearing in small roles in films and television shows. In 2011, she landed her breakout role as Rachel Zane in the USA Network legal drama Suits, which she starred in until 2018.

In 2016, Markle began dating Prince Harry. They were married in a ceremony at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, on May 19, 2018. The couple have two children, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.

In January 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their decision to step back as senior members of the British royal family. They moved to North America and have since become financially independent.
