Claudia Schiffer was born in Rheinberg, West Germany. She is the daughter of Gudrun and Heinz Schiffer. Schiffer has two older brothers, Stefan and Andreas. Schiffer attended Bertha-von-Suttner-Gesamtschule in Rheinberg.
Schiffer began her modeling career at the age of 17 when she was discovered by a modeling agent while attending a disco in Düsseldorf. She soon signed with the Metropolitan Model Agency in Paris.
