Early Life and Career

Born Emmitt Perry, Jr. on September 30, 1969, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Grew up in a poor and abusive household.
Dropped out of high school at age 16 and worked various jobs to support himself.
In the early 1990s, moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and began writing and producing stage plays.

Stage Plays

Gained recognition for his series of stage plays about African-American life, which he wrote, produced, and starred in.
Some of his most popular plays include "I Know I've Been Changed", "Madea's Family Reunion", and "Diary of a Mad Black Woman".

Film and Television Career

Made his feature film debut in 2005 with the comedy "Diary of a Mad Black Woman", which he wrote, directed, and starred in.
The film was a commercial success, grossing over $50 million at the box office.
Since then, has directed and starred in numerous films, including "Madea's Family Reunion" (2006), "Meet the Browns" (2008), and "Madea Goes to Jail" (2009).
Has also produced and starred in several television series, including "House of Payne" (2006-2012), "Meet the Browns" (2009-2011), and "The Haves and the Have Nots" (2013-2021).
