Ghita Nørby
Ghita Nørby (born 11 January 1935) is a Danish actress. She has appeared in over 100 films and television shows since 1956.
Nørby was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. She began her acting career in the early 1950s, appearing in small roles in films and television shows. In 1956, she received her breakthrough role in the film "Qivitoq". She went on to star in a number of critically acclaimed films, including "The Red Mantle" (1967), "The Passion of Anna" (1969), and "Babette's Feast" (1987).
Nørby has also had a successful career on stage. She has appeared in productions of plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, and Chekhov. In 1981, she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her performance in "A Little Night Music".
Nørby is one of the most celebrated actresses in Denmark. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Bodil Award for Best Actress (five times), the Robert Award for Best Actress (four times), and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama (once).
Nørby is also a writer. She has published several books, including a memoir and a collection of short stories.
Personal life
Nørby has been married three times. Her first husband was actor Preben Neergaard. They were married from 1956 to 1963 and had two children together. Her second husband was actor Jesper Christensen. They were married from 1970 to 1987 and had one child together. Her third husband is actor Mikael Rieks. They were married in 2001.
Nørby is a private person and rarely gives interviews. She is known for her strong work ethic and her dedication to her craft.
