Kandi Burruss is an American singer, songwriter, actress, reality television personality, and entrepreneur. She is best known as a member of the Grammy Award-winning R&B girl group Xscape and for her appearances on the Bravo reality television series The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Burruss has also been involved in other business ventures, including running her own record label, Kandi Koated Entertainment, and co-owning a restaurant called The Old Lady Gang with fellow Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member Phaedra Parks.
Early Life and Career
Burruss was born in College Park, Georgia on May 17, 1976. She began singing at a young age and was involved in the church choir. In 1992, she joined the R&B girl group Xscape, which went on to achieve great success in the 1990s. The group released four studio albums and sold over 10 million records worldwide. Burruss co-wrote and produced many of the group's hits, including "Just Kickin' It" and "My Little Secret."
Solo Career
After Xscape disbanded in 2005, Burruss began a solo career. She released her debut solo album, Hey Kandi, in 2009. The album spawned the hit single "Don't Think I'm Not." Burruss has also written and produced songs for other artists, including Beyoncé, Destiny's Child, Mariah Carey, and Alicia Keys.
Reality Television Career
In 2008, Burruss joined the cast of the Bravo reality television series The Real Housewives of Atlanta. The show follows the lives of several wealthy women from Atlanta, Georgia. Burruss has been a main cast member on the show since its inception and has become one of its most popular stars.
