Maria Bakalova was born on June 4, 1996, in Burgas, Bulgaria. She began acting at a young age, appearing in school plays and local theater productions. After graduating from high school, she moved to Sofia, Bulgaria, to study acting at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts.
Career
Bakalova's first major film role was in the 2017 Bulgarian film "Toni Erdmann," a remake of the 2015 German film of the same name. She played the role of Alexandra Georgieva, the daughter of the title character. The film was a critical and commercial success, and Bakalova's performance was praised by critics.
