Ellen DeGeneres (born January 26, 1958) is an American comedian, television host, actress, writer, and producer. She is best known for hosting the syndicated daytime talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which ran from 2003 to 2022. She has won numerous awards for her work, including 33 Daytime Emmy Awards, 11 People's Choice Awards, and a Peabody Award.

DeGeneres was born in Metairie, Louisiana, and raised in Atlanta, Texas. She began her career as a stand-up comedian in the early 1980s. In 1986, she made her television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. She went on to star in her own sitcom, Ellen, which aired on ABC from 1994 to 1998. In 1997, DeGeneres came out as a lesbian on the cover of Time magazine, becoming one of the first openly gay celebrities in the United States.

After Ellen was canceled in 1998, DeGeneres hosted a daytime talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which premiered in September 2003. The show was a critical and commercial success, winning numerous awards and becoming one of the most popular daytime talk shows in the United States. In 2018, DeGeneres signed a three-year contract extension with Warner Bros. Television, keeping the show on the air through the 2021-2022 season. In May 2021, DeGeneres announced that she would be ending The Ellen DeGeneres Show after its 19th season. The final episode aired on May 26, 2022.

In addition to her work on television, DeGeneres has also appeared in several films, including Mr. Wrong (1996), EDtv (1999), and Finding Nemo (2003). She has also written several books, including The Funny Thing Is... (2003) and Seriously... I'm Kidding (2011).

DeGeneres is a vocal advocate for LGBTQ rights and has been a supporter of various charities and organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign and the Trevor Project. She has also been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump.

In 2020, DeGeneres was accused of fostering a toxic work environment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Several former employees alleged that they had been subjected to racism, homophobia, and sexual harassment. DeGeneres apologized for the allegations and promised to make changes to the show's culture.

Despite the allegations, DeGeneres remains one of the most popular celebrities in the United States. She has a large following on social media and her shows have been praised for their positivity and humor.
