Goran Bregović
Goran Bregović (born March 22, 1950) is a Bosnian-Serb composer and musician. He is known for his work on soundtracks for films such as The Queen Margot, Underground, Arizona Dream, Time of the Gypsies, and Emir Kusturica's Black Cat, White Cat. His style is often described as "Gypsy-Punk", containing a mixture of traditional Balkan music and rock influences, often with lyrics sung in Romani.
Bregović was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1950. He began his musical career in the 1970s as a member of the Yugoslav rock band Bijelo Dugme, which gained considerable popularity throughout Yugoslavia. After the band's breakup in 1989, he transitioned to film scoring, and quickly gained recognition for his work on Emir Kusturica's 1995 film, Underground, for which he composed the soundtrack. The soundtrack was a critical and commercial success, and earned Bregović a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Score.
