Sam Worthington (born 2 August 1976) is an Australian actor. He is known for his roles as Jake Sully in the Avatar film series (2009–present), Perseus in the Clash of the Titans film series (2010–2012), and Alex Mason in the Call of Duty video game series (2010–present).
Worthington was born in Godalming, Surrey, England, to Australian parents. He moved to Australia with his family when he was six years old. He attended John Curtin College of the Arts in Perth, Western Australia, where he studied drama.
Worthington made his acting debut in the Australian television series JAG (1998). He went on to appear in a number of other Australian television shows, including Water Rats (1999), Blue Heelers (2000), and The Great Gatsby (2000).
In 2009, Worthington starred in the James Cameron film Avatar, which became the highest-grossing film of all time. He reprised his role as Jake Sully in the sequels Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) and Avatar 3 (2024).
Worthington has also starred in a number of other films, including Terminator Salvation (2009), Clash of the Titans (2010), Wrath of the Titans (2012), Sabotage (2014), Everest (2015), Hacksaw Ridge (2016), and Manhunt: Unabomber (2017).
Worthington has won a number of awards for his work, including an AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Hacksaw Ridge. He has also been nominated for a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award.
Personal life
Worthington is married to Lara Bingle. They have three children together.
Worthington is a supporter of the Australian Rules Football team the West Coast Eagles. He is also a keen surfer.
