Claudia Cardinale is an Italian-born Tunisian actress who has appeared in over 130 films. She is best known for her roles in Luchino Visconti's The Leopard (1963), Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), and Federico Fellini's 8½ (1963).
Cardinale was born in Tunis, Tunisia, to Italian parents. She began her acting career in 1957, when she was cast in a small role in the film Goha. She quickly rose to fame, and within a few years she was one of the most popular actresses in Italy.
In the 1960s, Cardinale starred in a number of critically acclaimed films, including The Leopard, Once Upon a Time in the West, and 8½. These films helped to establish her as one of the most talented and versatile actresses of her generation.
In the 1970s, Cardinale continued to star in a variety of films, including The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976), The Serpent (1973), and Fitzcarraldo (1982). She also appeared in a number of television shows, including The Thorn Birds (1983) and The Red and the Black (1997).
In the 1990s and 2000s, Cardinale continued to work in film and television. She received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the 1990 film At Play in the Fields of the Lord. She also starred in the films Son of the Pink Panther (1993), The Dinner (1998), and And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself (2003).
Cardinale is a recipient of numerous awards, including the David di Donatello Award for Best Actress, the Golden Lion Award for Best Actress, and the Silver Bear for Best Actress. She was also awarded the Legion of Honour by the French government in 2002.
Cardinale is married to the Italian producer Franco Cristaldi. They have one son, Patrick Cristaldi, who is also an actor.
