Sophie Danièle Sylvie Maupu (born 17 November 1966), known professionally as Sophie Marceau, is a French actress, film director, screenwriter, and author. She is best known for her roles as Vic in La Boum (1980) and its sequel La Boum 2 (1982), and as Elektra King in the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough (1999).
Marceau was born in Paris, France. Her mother, Simone Morisset, was a shop assistant, and her father, Benoît Maupu, was a truck driver. She has one older sister, Sylvie. Marceau began her acting career at the age of 14, when she was cast in the lead role of La Boum. The film was a huge success, and Marceau became a star overnight.
Marceau has since appeared in over 50 films, including Braveheart (1995), Anna Karenina (1997), and Anthony Zimmer (2005). She has also directed two films, Parlez-moi d'amour (2002) and La Disparue de Deauville (2007).
In addition to her acting career, Marceau is also a successful author. She has published three novels, La Fille du RER (2002), L'Amour, la Guerre (2009), and Madame Montgomery (2015). Marceau is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. She is also a supporter of the French Red Cross and the Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale.
Marceau has received numerous awards for her work, including the César Award for Best Actress in 1983, the David di Donatello Award for Best Foreign Actress in 1996, and the San Sebastián International Film Festival Award for Best Actress in 2002.
In 2015, Marceau was awarded the Legion of Honour, the highest order of merit in France.
Personal life
Marceau has been married twice. Her first marriage was to Andrzej Żuławski, a Polish film director. They had a son, Vincent, in 1995. Marceau and Żuławski divorced in 2001. In 2007, Marceau married Christopher Lambert, a French actor. They divorced in 2014.
Marceau has been in a relationship with Cyril Lignac, a French chef, since 2015.
