Emiliano Daniel Martínez (born 2 September 1992) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Premier League club Aston Villa and the Argentina national team.
Martínez began his career at Independiente in Argentina, before moving to Arsenal in England in 2010. He spent the majority of his time at Arsenal on loan at various clubs, including Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Getafe. In 2020, he joined Aston Villa for a fee of £20 million.
Martínez made his senior international debut for Argentina in 2021. He was part of the Argentina squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and was named the tournament's Best Goalkeeper.
Early life and career
Martínez was born in Mar del Plata, Argentina. He began his career at local club Independiente. In 2010, he moved to Arsenal in England for a fee of £1 million.
