Biography:
Senta Berger is an Austrian actress, producer, and director. She has appeared in over 100 films and television productions, and has won numerous awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture in 1967.
Berger was born in Vienna, Austria, on May 13, 1941. She began her acting career at the age of 16, appearing in a number of small roles in Austrian films. In 1960, she made her international debut in the film "The Marriage of Mr. Mississippi".
Berger's breakthrough role came in 1962, when she starred opposite Kirk Douglas in the film "The List of Adrian Messenger". She went on to appear in a number of successful films throughout the 1960s and 1970s, including "The Ipcress File" (1965), "Major Dundee" (1965), "The Quiller Memorandum" (1966), "Cast a Giant Shadow" (1966), "The Assassination Bureau" (1969), "The Valachi Papers" (1972), and "Craze" (1974).
In the 1980s, Berger began to focus more on producing and directing. She produced the films "The Story of O" (1984) and "The Music of Time" (1990), and directed the films "The Woman Next Door" (1993) and "The Last Days of Chez Nous" (1999).
Berger has continued to act in films and television throughout the 2000s and 2010s. She has appeared in the films "The Piano Teacher" (2001), "Sophie Scholl: The Final Days" (2005), "Anonymous" (2011), and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" (2014). She has also appeared in the television series "The Borgias" (2011–2013) and "Deutschland 83" (2015).
Berger is a highly respected actress and filmmaker. She has received numerous awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture in 1967, the Berlin International Film Festival Award for Best Actress in 1970, and the Bavarian Film Award for Best Actress in 2001. She was also awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2010.
