Juan Luis Guerra
Juan Luis Guerra Seijas (born June 7, 1957) is a Dominican singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is one of the most successful Latin artists of all time, having sold over 30 million records worldwide. Guerra has won numerous awards, including 18 Latin Grammy Awards, two Grammy Awards, and a Latin Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award.
Guerra was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He began his musical career in the early 1980s as a member of the group Juan Luis Guerra y 4.40. The group's first album, Soplando, was released in 1984 and was a commercial success in the Dominican Republic.
Guerra's breakthrough album was his second album, Mudanza y Acarreo (1985). The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to launch Guerra's international career. Guerra's subsequent albums, including Bachata Rosa (1990), Areíto (1992), Fogaraté (1994), and Ni Es Lo Mismo Ni Es Igual (1998), were also critical and commercial successes.
Guerra's music is a fusion of merengue, bachata, and salsa. He is known for his socially conscious lyrics and his energetic live performances. Juan Luis Guerra is married to Nora Vega. They have two children together, a son named Juan Gabriel and a daughter named Paulina. Guerra is a devout Christian, and he is involved in a number of charitable organizations. He is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
