Gabriela Sabatini (born May 16, 1970) is an Argentine former professional tennis player and occasional actress. She was one of the top players in the world during the late 1980s and early 1990s, and was the first player from South America to reach the women's singles final at both Wimbledon and the US Open. She won the women's doubles title at Wimbledon in 1988, partnering with Steffi Graf, and the mixed doubles title at the French Open in 1985, with Heinz Günthardt.
Sabatini turned professional in 1985 at the age of 15. She quickly rose through the ranks, reaching the semifinals of the French Open in 1986 and the quarterfinals of the US Open in 1987. In 1988, she reached the final of Wimbledon, where she lost to Steffi Graf. She also reached the final of the US Open that year, where she again lost to Graf.
In 1990, Sabatini won her first and only Grand Slam singles title at the US Open. She defeated Graf in the final in three sets. She also reached the final of the French Open that year, where she lost to Monica Seles.
Sabatini retired from professional tennis in 1996 at the age of 26. She had won 27 WTA singles titles and 14 WTA doubles titles. She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2006.
After retiring from tennis, Sabatini pursued a career in acting. She starred in the Argentine television series "Gabriela" in 1998 and "Costumbres Argentinas" in 2003. She also appeared in the films "The Godfather Part III" (1990) and "Evita" (1996).
Sabatini is considered one of the greatest female tennis players of all time. She was known for her powerful groundstrokes, her athleticism, and her elegant style of play. She was also a popular figure off the court, and was known for her friendly and outgoing personality.
