Cher is an American singer, actress, and television personality. She is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. She is also one of the most successful actresses, having won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Cannes Film Festival Award.

Cher was born Cherilyn Sarkisian in El Centro, California. She began her career as a backup singer for Phil Spector's girl group the Ronettes. In 1964, she met Sonny Bono, and the two formed the pop duo Sonny & Cher. The duo released a number of hit songs, including "I Got You Babe" and "The Beat Goes On."

After Sonny & Cher broke up in 1974, Cher began a successful solo career. She released a number of hit songs, including "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves," "Half-Breed," and "Dark Lady." She also starred in a number of films, including "Silkwood" (1983), "Mask" (1985), and "Moonstruck" (1987).
