Donnie Yen

Donnie Yen Ji-dan (born 27 July 1963) is a Hong Kong actor, film director, producer, action choreographer, and multiple-time world Wushu tournament champion. Yen rose to fame for his roles in the wuxia television series Fist of Fury (1995) and Tai Chi Master (1996), the former of which helped revive the genre. He is known for playing the role of Ip Man, a grandmaster of the Wing Chun martial art, in the Ip Man film series (2008–2019). Yen also played Chirrut Îmwe, a blind warrior monk, in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and Xander Cage in xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017).

Yen was born in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, and moved to Hong Kong with his family when he was two years old. He began training in martial arts at a young age and won his first wushu tournament at the age of 14. Yen studied wushu at the Beijing Wushu Academy for two years before returning to Hong Kong to pursue a career in film.

Yen's first film role was in the 1980 action film The Shaolin Temple. He went on to star in a number of martial arts films in the 1980s and 1990s, including Drunken Tai Chi (1984), Fist of Fury (1995), and Tai Chi Master (1996). Yen's breakthrough role came in the 2008 film Ip Man, in which he played the role of Ip Man, a grandmaster of the Wing Chun martial art. The film was a critical and commercial success, and Yen received widespread acclaim for his performance. Yen reprised the role of Ip Man in two sequels, Ip Man 2 (2010) and Ip Man 3 (2015), both of which were also critical and commercial successes.
