Fernando Muslera
Fernando Muslera Günal (born 16 June 1986) is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Turkish club Galatasaray and the Uruguay national team.
Club career Early career Muslera started his career with Montevideo Wanderers, making his debut in the Uruguayan Primera División in 2004. He quickly established himself as a first-choice goalkeeper and helped the club win the 2006 Clausura championship.
Nacional In 2007, Muslera joined Nacional, one of Uruguay's biggest clubs. He won the 2008–09 Uruguayan Primera División championship with Nacional, and was also named the Uruguayan Footballer of the Year in 2009.
Lazio In 2011, Muslera moved to Italian club Lazio for a fee of €5 million. He made his Serie A debut on 11 September 2011, in a 2–0 win over Milan. Muslera quickly became a regular starter for Lazio, and helped the club win the 2012–13 Coppa Italia.
Galatasaray In 2014, Muslera joined Turkish club Galatasaray for a fee of €6.5 million. He has won the Süper Lig title five times with Galatasaray, in 2014–15, 2017–18, 2018–19, 2019–20, and 2021–22. He has also won the Turkish Cup three times, in 2014–15, 2015–16, and 2018–19.
International career Muslera made his debut for the Uruguay national team in 2009. He was part of the Uruguay squad that won the 2011 Copa América, and was also named the tournament's best goalkeeper. Muslera has also played in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Style of play Muslera is a tall and athletic goalkeeper, known for his shot-stopping ability and his command of the penalty area. He is also a good distributor of the ball, and is often used as a sweeper-keeper.
Personal life Muslera is married to Patricia Callero, a Uruguayan model. They have two children together, a son named Thiago and a daughter named Camila.
