Trudie Styler (born January 6, 1954) is an English actress, singer, film producer, and environmental activist. She is married to musician Sting.
Early life and education Styler was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England. Her father, Harry Styler, was a factory worker and her mother, Pauline, was a housewife. Styler attended Bromsgrove High School and then studied drama at the Birmingham School of Speech and Drama.
Career Styler began her acting career in the early 1980s. She appeared in small roles in films such as Breaking Glass (1980) and Absolute Beginners (1986), and had a leading role in the television series The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13¾ (1985). In 1983, she co-founded the production company Picture Palace Films with Sting. Together, they have produced a number of films, including The Bride (1985), Stormy Monday (1988), and A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies (1995).
Styler has also had a successful career as a singer. She has released two solo albums, Precious (1986) and Cry to Heaven (1991). She has also sung on several of Sting's albums, including The Dream of the Blue Turtles (1985), Nothing Like the Sun (1987), and Mercury Falling (1996).
In addition to her acting and singing career, Styler is also an environmental activist. She is a founding member of the Rainforest Foundation and has worked to raise awareness about the importance of rainforest conservation. She is also a patron of the charity Farms for City Children.
Personal life Styler has been married to Sting since 1992. They have four children together: Joseph (born 1983), Brigitte Michael (born 1984), Jake (born 1985), and Eliot Paulina (born 1990). Styler also has a daughter, Mickey Sumner (born 1984), from her previous relationship with actor Bernard Sumner of the band Joy Division and New Order.
Styler is a fluent Italian speaker. She is also a trained yoga instructor.
Awards and nominations Styler has been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role in The Commitments (1991) and for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for her role in The Josephine Baker Story (1991). She has also been nominated for two Emmy Awards, for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her role in The Josephine Baker Story and for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program for her role in the television special Sting: A Concert for Haiti (2010).
