Germán Pezzella
Germán Pezzella (born 27 June 1991) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Real Betis and the Argentina national team.
Club career
Pezzella started his career with River Plate, making his debut in 2011. He won the Argentine Primera División title in 2014 and the Copa Sudamericana in 2014 and 2015.
In 2015, Pezzella signed for Real Betis in Spain. He made his La Liga debut on 23 August 2015, in a 1–0 win over Villarreal CF. He scored his first goal for Betis on 11 December 2016, in a 1–0 win over Real Sociedad.
Pezzella was a regular starter for Betis during the 2016–17 season, helping the club to finish 15th in La Liga. He also played in the Copa del Rey, where Betis reached the semi-finals.
In the 2017–18 season, Pezzella continued to be a regular starter for Betis. He helped the club to finish 6th in La Liga, which was their highest finish in 17 years. He also played in the Copa del Rey, where Betis reached the quarter-finals.
Pezzella was again a regular starter for Betis during the 2018–19 season. He helped the club to finish 10th in La Liga. He also played in the Copa del Rey, where Betis reached the semi-finals.
In the 2019–20 season, Pezzella continued to be a regular starter for Betis. He helped the club to finish 15th in La Liga. He also played in the Copa del Rey, where Betis reached the quarter-finals.
International career
Pezzella made his debut for the Argentina national team in 2017. He was part of the Argentina squad that won the Copa América in 2021.
Pezzella has also represented Argentina at the FIFA World Cup, playing in the 2018 and 2022 tournaments.
