Early Life and Career Beginnings
Sean Combs was born on November 4, 1969, in Harlem, New York City. He grew up in Mount Vernon, New York, where he pursued his passion for music and dance at an early age. After graduating from Mount Vernon High School, he attended Howard University in Washington, D.C., but later dropped out to pursue a career in music.
Music Career
In 1990, Combs began his career in the music industry as an intern at Uptown Records. He quickly rose through the ranks and became the label's Director of A&R (Artists and Repertoire). During his time at Uptown, he worked with notable artists such as Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, and Heavy D & the Boyz.
In 1993, Combs founded his own record label, Bad Boy Records. The label quickly gained recognition for its distinctive sound and talented roster of artists, which included The Notorious B.I.G., Mase, and Faith Evans. Combs, known as Puff Daddy at the time, produced and released his debut album, "No Way Out," in 1997, which was a commercial success and won him a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.
