Marian Hossa (born January 12, 1979) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey right winger. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Ottawa Senators, Atlanta Thrashers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, and Chicago Blackhawks. Hossa was drafted by the Senators with the 12th overall pick in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
Hossa is widely considered to be one of the greatest two-way forwards in NHL history. He is a three-time Stanley Cup champion, winning with the Penguins in 2009, the Blackhawks in 2010 and 2013. He was also named to the NHL First All-Star Team three times and the NHL Second All-Star Team once. In addition, Hossa led the NHL in scoring during the 2006–07 season.
Hossa was born in Stará Ľubovňa, Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia). He began playing hockey at a young age and quickly developed into a highly skilled player. He made his professional debut in the Slovak Extraliga in 1994–95 with Dukla Trenčín. After two seasons in Slovakia, Hossa moved to North America to play in the Western Hockey League (WHL). He spent two seasons with the Portland Winter Hawks before being drafted by the Senators.
Hossa made his NHL debut with the Senators in 1997–98. He quickly established himself as a top-line player and was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team. Hossa played four seasons with the Senators before being traded to the Thrashers in 2001. He spent three seasons in Atlanta before being traded to the Penguins in 2004.
Hossa played two seasons with the Penguins and won the Stanley Cup in 2009. He then signed a 12-year, $62.8 million contract with the Blackhawks in 2009. Hossa played seven seasons with the Blackhawks and won the Stanley Cup again in 2010 and 2013. He also led the NHL in scoring in 2006–07.
Hossa retired from the NHL after the 2016–17 season. He finished his career with 1,134 points (525 goals, 609 assists) in 1,309 regular season games. He also added 149 points (61 goals, 88 assists) in 201 playoff games.
Hossa was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2020. He was also named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in history.
