Andriy Shevchenko
Andriy Mykolayovych Shevchenko (Ukrainian: Андрій Миколайович Шевченко; born 29 September 1976) is a Ukrainian football manager and former professional player. During his playing career, Shevchenko was widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers of all time. His goalscoring prowess, positioning, technical skills, and acrobatic finishing made him one of the most feared strikers in Europe.
Shevchenko began his career at Dynamo Kyiv, where he won five Ukrainian Premier League titles and two Ukrainian Cups. He also helped the club reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in the 1998–99 season. In 1999, he moved to AC Milan for a world record fee of £25 million. He spent seven seasons at AC Milan, winning the Serie A title in 2004 and the UEFA Champions League in 2003, scoring the decisive penalty in the final against Juventus. He also won the Ballon d'Or in 2004, becoming the first Ukrainian player to win the award.
In 2006, Shevchenko moved to Chelsea for a fee of £30 million. He spent two seasons at Chelsea, winning the FA Cup in 2007. In 2008, he returned to AC Milan for a further season before moving to Dynamo Kyiv in 2009. He retired from football in 2012 after a brief spell with the Ukrainian club.
Shevchenko made his debut for the Ukrainian national team in 1995. He captained the team for eight years, leading them to the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup in 2006. He is the all-time leading goalscorer for the Ukrainian national team with 48 goals in 111 appearances.
After retiring from football, Shevchenko began a coaching career. He was appointed manager of the Ukrainian national team in 2016, leading them to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Euro 2020. He resigned from his position in 2021.
Shevchenko is considered one of the greatest Ukrainian footballers of all time. He is a member of the FIFA 100 list of the greatest living footballers.
