Anna Helene Paquin was born on July 24, 1982, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She is a New Zealand-born Canadian actress who rose to fame for her role as Flora McGrath in The Piano (1993), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at age 11, making her the second-youngest winner in Oscar history. She has since starred in a variety of films and television series, including Fly Away Home (1996), She's All That (1999), X-Men (2000), The X-Men films (2003-2014), True Blood (2008-2014), and Flack (2019-2021).
Early Life and Career
Paquin was born to Mary Paquin, an English teacher, and Brian Paquin, a physical education teacher. She grew up in Wellington, New Zealand, and attended Hutt Intermediate School and Wellington Girls' College. Paquin began acting at a young age, and made her film debut in Jane Campion's The Piano (1993). Her performance as Flora McGrath, a young girl who travels from Scotland to New Zealand with her mother and mute sister, earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at age 11.
