Sergio Agüero
Sergio Leonel Agüero del Castillo (born 2 June 1988) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a striker. Considered one of the greatest strikers of all time, Agüero is the all-time top scorer for Manchester City, the club where he spent most of his career and won 15 major trophies. With the Argentina national team, he won the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2021 Copa América, scoring a total of 42 goals in 101 appearances.
Agüero began his career at Independiente in 2003, becoming the youngest player to debut in the Argentine Primera División at the age of 15 years and 35 days. He moved to Atlético Madrid in 2006, where he won the UEFA Europa League in 2010 and the UEFA Super Cup in 2010 and 2012. In 2011, he joined Manchester City for a club record fee of £38 million.
At Manchester City, Agüero won five Premier League titles, six EFL Cups, one FA Cup and three FA Community Shields. He is the club's all-time top scorer, with 260 goals in 390 appearances. In 2012, he scored a last-minute goal against Queens Park Rangers to win the Premier League title for Manchester City on the final day of the season. This goal is widely regarded as one of the most iconic moments in Premier League history.
Agüero made his international debut for Argentina in 2006. He was part of the Argentina teams that reached the final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and won the 2021 Copa América. He also played at the 2010 and 2018 FIFA World Cups.
Agüero retired from football in December 2021 due to a heart condition. He was diagnosed with arrhythmia, a condition that can cause irregular heartbeats.
Agüero was known for his speed, agility, dribbling skills and goalscoring ability. He was a prolific goalscorer throughout his career, scoring over 400 goals for club and country. He was also a popular figure among fans, known for his infectious personality and his love of the game.
In 2022, Agüero was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.
