Dwayne Johnson was born in Hayward, California, to Ata Johnson, a Samoan professional wrestler, and Rocky Johnson, a Canadian professional wrestler. Johnson has two older sisters, Wanda and Ata Jr.

Johnson attended Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he played football and was a member of the track and field team. After graduating from high school, Johnson attended the University of Miami on a football scholarship.
