Mats Hummels
Mats Julian Hummels (born 16 December 1988) is a German professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the Germany national team. He is known for his defensive abilities, passing range, and leadership.
Club career Early career
Hummels began his career at Bayern Munich, where he progressed through the youth ranks and made his professional debut in the Bundesliga in 2007. He spent two seasons with Bayern, where he won the Bundesliga title in 2008 and the DFB-Pokal in 2010.
Borussia Dortmund
In 2009, Hummels joined Borussia Dortmund on loan for the 2009–10 season. He quickly established himself as a key player for the club, and Dortmund won the Bundesliga title in his first season. He went on to win the Bundesliga title again in 2011 and 2012, as well as the DFB-Pokal in 2012.
Return to Bayern Munich
In 2016, Hummels returned to Bayern Munich for a club-record fee of €35 million. He won the Bundesliga title in his first season back at the club, and went on to win it again in 2018 and 2019. He also won the DFB-Pokal in 2016 and 2019, and the DFL-Supercup in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Return to Borussia Dortmund
In 2019, Hummels returned to Borussia Dortmund for a fee of €30 million. He has since helped the club win the Bundesliga title in 2021 and the DFB-Pokal in 2021.
International career
Hummels has represented Germany at all levels of youth football. He made his senior debut for Germany in 2010, and was part of the squad that won the FIFA World Cup in 2014. He has also represented Germany at the UEFA European Championship in 2012 and 2016, and the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2017.
Personal life
Hummels is married to Cathy Fischer, and they have a son together. He speaks fluent English and is a fan of American football.
