Lana Del Rey (born Elizabeth Woolridge Grant; June 21, 1985) is an American singer-songwriter. Her music is often characterized by its melancholic tone, cinematic sound, and lyrical themes of love, loss, and nostalgia. Del Rey has released eight studio albums, all of which have been certified gold or platinum in the United States. She has also won numerous awards, including a Grammy Award, a Brit Award, and two MTV Video Music Awards.
Del Rey was born in New York City and raised in Lake Placid, New York. She began writing songs at a young age, and she released her first EP, Lana Del Ray, in 2010. The EP was a critical and commercial failure, but it helped Del Rey gain a cult following. In 2011, she released her second EP, Born to Die: The Paradise Edition, which was a commercial success. The EP's title track, "Born to Die", became Del Rey's first top-ten single on the Billboard Hot 100.
Del Rey's debut studio album, Born to Die, was released in 2012. The album was a critical and commercial success, selling over 3 million copies worldwide. The album's lead single, "Video Games", became Del Rey's second top-ten single on the Billboard Hot 100.
Del Rey's subsequent albums, Ultraviolence (2014), Honeymoon (2015), and Lust for Life (2017), were all commercial successes. Norman Fucking Rockwell! (2019) and Chemtrails over the Country Club (2021) were both met with critical acclaim.
