Edson Arantes do Nascimento (born 23 October 1940), known as Pelé, is a Brazilian former professional footballer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. He is the only player to have won the FIFA World Cup three times as a player (1958, 1962, and 1970) and is the all-time leading goalscorer for Brazil with 77 goals in 92 games. At club level, he played for Santos in Brazil and the New York Cosmos in the United States.

Pelé was born in Três Corações, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He began playing football at an early age and joined Santos at the age of 15. He made his professional debut for the club in 1956 and quickly became one of the most popular players in the world. He helped Santos win six Campeonato Brasileiro Série A titles and two Copa Libertadores.

Pelé made his international debut for Brazil in 1957 at the age of 16. He helped Brazil win the FIFA World Cup in 1958, becoming the youngest player to ever score in a World Cup final. He also helped Brazil win the World Cup in 1962 and 1970.

Pelé retired from playing in 1977. He has since worked as a commentator, actor, and ambassador for various organizations. He is a member of the FIFA 100, a list of the 100 greatest living footballers.
