Nancy Kwan
Nancy Kwan (born May 19, 1939) is a Hong Kong American actress, dancer, and diplomat. She is best known for her roles in The World of Suzie Wong (1960), Flower Drum Song (1961), and The Hawaiians (1970).
Kwan was born in Hong Kong on May 19, 1939. Her father, Kwan Wing-hong, was a Chinese businessman and her mother, Marquita Scott, was an Englishwoman. Kwan grew up in Hong Kong and attended St. Paul's Convent School. She began studying ballet at the age of 11 and later attended the Royal Ballet School in London.
In 1958, Kwan made her film debut in the British film The Inn of the Sixth Happiness. She then moved to the United States and appeared in a number of Hollywood films, including The World of Suzie Wong (1960), Flower Drum Song (1961), and The Hawaiians (1970). Kwan also appeared in several television shows, including The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1965), Kung Fu (1972), and The A-Team (1983).
In addition to her acting career, Kwan has also served as a diplomat. She was appointed by President Jimmy Carter as the U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia in 1979. She served in this role until 1981.
Kwan has received numerous awards and honors for her work in film and television. She was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical for her role in The World of Suzie Wong. She was also awarded the Asian American Film Critics Association's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
Kwan is married to actor David Lemkin. They have two children, a son and a daughter.
