Lara Gut
Lara Gut-Behrami (born April 27, 1991) is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer and two-time world champion. She has won 34 World Cup races, including eleven in super-G, nine in downhill, eight in giant slalom, five in combined, and one in parallel giant slalom. She is the 2016 overall World Cup champion, becoming the first Swiss woman to win the title since Vreni Schneider in 1995.
Gut began skiing at the age of two and made her World Cup debut in November 2007. At the 2009 World Championships, she finished ninth in the super-G. In the 2010 Winter Olympics, she won the bronze medal in the downhill and finished fifth in the super-G.
At the 2011 World Championships, Gut won the gold medal in the giant slalom and the bronze medal in the super-G. She also won the overall World Cup giant slalom title that season. In the 2013 World Championships, she won the gold medal in the super-G and the bronze medal in the downhill.
At the 2014 Winter Olympics, Gut was one of the favorites in the downhill and super-G. However, she crashed in the downhill and injured her knee. She was unable to compete in the super-G and the rest of the season.
Gut returned to competition for the 2015 season and quickly regained her form. She won the overall World Cup giant slalom title again and also finished third in the overall World Cup standings. In the 2016 World Championships, she won the bronze medal in the downhill and the super-G.
In the 2016–17 season, Gut won the overall World Cup title, becoming the first Swiss woman to win the title since Vreni Schneider in 1995. She also won the crystal globe in the giant slalom and super-G disciplines.
Gut has been praised for her aggressive skiing style and her ability to win races in all five disciplines. She is considered one of the best female alpine skiers of all time.
Personal life
Gut was born in Sorengo, Ticino, Switzerland. She is the daughter of Pauli Gut, a former Swiss alpine ski racer, and Gabriella Almici, a former Italian alpine ski racer. She has a younger brother named Ian. Gut speaks Italian, German, French, and English.
Gut is married to Valon Behrami, a Swiss footballer. They were married in a civil ceremony in July 2018 and had a religious ceremony in September 2018.
Gut is a philanthropist and has donated money to various charities, including the Swiss Red Cross, the Swiss Olympic Association, and the Children's Hospital of Zurich.
