Biography

Roger Moore was an English actor who gained worldwide fame for playing the role of James Bond in seven films between 1973 and 1985. He is the longest-serving actor in the role, and is considered by many to be one of the most iconic Bonds.

Moore began his acting career in the early 1950s, appearing in small roles in films and television shows. He first gained attention for his role as Ivanhoe in the 1958-1959 television series of the same name. In the 1960s, he starred in a number of popular television shows, including "The Saint" (1962-1969) and "The Persuaders!" (1971-1972).

Moore's breakthrough role came in 1973, when he was cast as James Bond in the film "Live and Let Die". He went on to play Bond in six more films: "The Man with the Golden Gun" (1974), "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977), "Moonraker" (1979), "For Your Eyes Only" (1981), "Octopussy" (1983), and "A View to a Kill" (1985). Moore's portrayal of Bond was characterized by his suave demeanor, quick wit, and athleticism. He was also known for his signature catchphrase, "Bond, James Bond".

After leaving the role of Bond, Moore continued to act in films and television shows. He also became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1991, and served in that role until his death in 2017.

Personal life

Moore was married four times. His first marriage was to Doorn van Steyn in 1946. They had one son, Geoffrey, before divorcing in 1953. Moore's second marriage was to Dorothy Squires in 1953. They had one child, Deborah, before divorcing in 1969. Moore's third marriage was to Luisa Mattioli in 1969. They had three children: Christian, Christina, and Geoffrey. Moore's fourth marriage was to Kristina Tholstrup in 2002. They remained married until Moore's death in 2017.

Death

Moore died on May 23, 2017, at the age of 89, after a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.
