Pope Pius XII was the 260th pope of the Catholic Church, reigning from 1939 to 1958. He was born Eugenio Maria Giuseppe Giovanni Pacelli in Rome, Italy, on March 2, 1876. He was ordained a priest in 1899 and served as a diplomat for the Holy See in Germany and Austria before being elected pope in 1939.
