Diane Sawyer
Diane Sawyer is an American journalist and television news anchor. She was born on December 22, 1945, in Glasgow, Kentucky. She attended Wellesley College and graduated in 1967 with a degree in English.
Sawyer began her journalism career as a weather forecaster at WLKY-TV in Louisville, Kentucky. She then moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a reporter for CBS News. In 1978, she became the first female co-anchor of the CBS Evening News. She left CBS in 1989 to join ABC News, where she became the co-anchor of Primetime Live. She also hosted the newsmagazine 20/20 from 1998 to 2000.
In 2009, Sawyer became the anchor of ABC's World News. She retired from ABC News in 2014.
Sawyer has won numerous awards for her journalism, including 16 Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, and a duPont-Columbia Award. She has also received honorary degrees from several universities.
Sawyer is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Board of Trustees of Wellesley College. She is also a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme.
Sawyer is married to Mike Nichols, a film and theater director. They have one son, Jake.
