Personal life
Bernard Lama was born on 7 April 1963 in Saint-Symphorien, Guadeloupe, France. He is a former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He is best known for his time with Paris Saint-Germain, where he won numerous titles, including the Ligue 1 championship and the Coupe de France. He also played for Lille, Lens, Manchester United, and West Ham United.
Lama made 44 appearances for the France national team and was a member of the squad that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 2000 UEFA European Championship. He retired from international football in 2000.
After retiring from football, Lama went on to become a successful businessman. He is the founder and owner of the Bernard Lama Foundation, which provides support to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. He is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
Playing career
Lama began his professional career with Lille in 1981. He quickly established himself as one of the best young goalkeepers in France and was signed by Paris Saint-Germain in 1985.
Lama spent 10 years with Paris Saint-Germain, winning four Ligue 1 titles, four Coupe de France titles, and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1996. He was also named the French Footballer of the Year in 1994.
In 1997, Lama left Paris Saint-Germain for Manchester United. He spent two seasons at Old Trafford, winning the Premier League title in 1999.
Lama then moved to West Ham United in 2000. He spent two seasons with the Hammers, making over 50 appearances in all competitions.
International career
Lama made his international debut for France in 1993. He was a member of the squad that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 2000 UEFA European Championship. He retired from international football in 2000.
