Birgitte Hjort Sørensen

Birgitte Hjort Sørensen (born 16 January 1982) is a Danish actress. She is best known for her roles as Detective Superintendent Katrine Ries Jensen in the Danish political drama television series Borgen (2010–2013), and as Astrid Holm, a vampire and the love interest of the titular character in the American drama series Hemlock Grove (2013–2015).

Sørensen was born in Nykøbing Falster, Denmark. She began acting in 2003, appearing in the Danish film Family Matters. She went on to star in a number of other Danish films and television series, including Nordkraft (2005), The Killing (2007), and Borgen (2010–2013).

In 2013, Sørensen made her American debut in the Netflix drama series Hemlock Grove. She played the role of Astrid Holm, a vampire and the love interest of the titular character. The series was cancelled after three seasons.

In 2015, Sørensen starred in the Danish drama film The Man Who Came Back, for which she won the Bodil Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 2016, she appeared in the American action film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.

Sørensen has also appeared in a number of stage productions, including Romeo and Juliet (2007) and Hedda Gabler (2010).

Sørensen is married to Swedish actor Peter Plaugborg. They have one child together.
