Govinda (born Govind Arun Ahuja on 21 December 1963) is an Indian film actor, comedian, dancer, and politician. He is known for his work in Hindi cinema, and has appeared in over 165 films. Govinda is widely regarded as one of the most successful and popular actors in Indian cinema history.

Early life and career

Govinda was born on 21 December 1963 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He is the son of Arun Ahuja, a film actor, and Nirmala Devi Ahuja, a homemaker. Govinda has two brothers, Kirti Kumar and Rakesh Roshan. He attended St. Xavier's High School in Mumbai, and later studied at the Mithibai College of Arts in Mumbai.

Govinda began his acting career in 1986 with the film Ilzaam. He rose to fame in the 1990s with a series of successful films, including Tridev (1989), Shola Aur Shabnam (1992), Coolie No. 1 (1995), Hero No. 1 (1997), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998), and Haseena Maan Jaayegi (1999). Govinda is known for his energetic dance moves, his comic timing, and his ability to connect with audiences.

Political career

In 2004, Govinda joined the Indian National Congress party. He was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India, from Mumbai North in 2004. In 2009, he was re-elected to the Lok Sabha from Mumbai North. Govinda resigned from the Lok Sabha in 2013 to focus on his acting career.

Awards and recognition

Govinda has won numerous awards for his work in Hindi cinema, including 12 Filmfare Awards, 11 Zee Cine Awards, and 9 International Indian Film Academy Awards. In 2007, he was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India.

Personal life

Govinda is married to Sunita Ahuja. They have two children, a son named Yashvardhan and a daughter named Tina. Govinda is a devout Hindu and is known for his charitable work.
