Usher Raymond IV (born October 14, 1978), known mononymously as Usher, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor. He is one of the most successful R&B artists of all time, having sold over 200 million records worldwide. Usher has won numerous awards, including eight Grammy Awards, eight American Music Awards, and 18 Billboard Music Awards.
Usher was born in Dallas, Texas, to Usher Raymond III, a music executive, and Jonetta Patton, a nurse. He has an older brother, James Lackey, and a younger sister, Karon. Usher began singing at a young age and joined a local church choir. He was discovered by a talent scout at the age of 13 and signed to LaFace Records.
Usher's debut album, Usher, was released in 1994. The album was a commercial success, selling over five million copies worldwide. Usher's second album, My Way, was released in 1997 and was even more successful, selling over eight million copies worldwide.
