Early Life and Education
Omar Abdullah was born on March 10, 1970, in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. He is the son of Farooq Abdullah, a former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, and Mollie Abdullah. He has two sisters, Sara Abdullah Pilot and Safia Abdullah.
Abdullah received his early education at Mayo College, Ajmer, and St. Stephen's College, Delhi. He later went on to study at the University of Cambridge, where he earned a degree in economics.
Political Career
Abdullah's political career began in 2002, when he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir from the Ganderbal constituency. He was appointed as the Minister of State for Tourism and Civil Aviation in the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed government.
In 2008, Abdullah became the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir after the National Conference won the state assembly elections. He held the position until 2015, when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the assembly elections.
