Joy Bryant is an American actress and former fashion model. She is known for her roles as Jasmine Trussell in the 2002 film Antwone Fisher, Lisa Miles in the 2007 film The Perfect Christmas, and Nia Long in the 2010 film Lottery Ticket.
Early life and education
Bryant was born on October 19, 1974, in The Bronx, New York City, the daughter of Joyce Bryant, a homemaker, and George Bryant, a bus driver. She has two older brothers, George Jr. and Marcus. Bryant was raised in the Morris Heights section of The Bronx and attended Cardinal Spellman High School. After graduating from high school, she enrolled at Fordham University, where she majored in international business.
Career
Bryant began her modeling career at the age of 16, when she was discovered by a scout while shopping at a mall. She signed with Ford Models and soon appeared in campaigns for brands such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Gap. Bryant also appeared in magazines such as Vogue, Elle, and Harper's Bazaar.
In 1997, Bryant made her acting debut in an episode of the television series Law & Order. She went on to appear in small roles in films such as The Hurricane (1999), Save the Last Dance (2000), and Antwone Fisher (2002). In 2004, Bryant landed her first leading role in the film Honey, opposite Jessica Alba. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to raise Bryant's profile in Hollywood.
Bryant has since starred in films such as The Perfect Christmas (2007), Lottery Ticket (2010), Think Like a Man (2012), and About Last Night (2014). She has also appeared in television series such as CSI: Miami, Parenthood, and Rosewood.
Personal life
Bryant is married to Dave Pope, an actor and producer. The couple have two children, a son named Samson and a daughter named Elle. Bryant is a practicing Christian and is involved in several charitable organizations.
