Early life and career
Raphaël Varane was born in Lille, France, to Guadeloupean parents. He began playing football at the age of seven for AS Hellemmes. In 2002, he joined the youth academy of RC Lens. In 2010, Varane made his professional debut for Lens, and quickly established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in France.
Real Madrid
In 2011, Varane signed for Real Madrid for a fee of €10 million. He quickly became a regular starter for the club, and helped them win numerous trophies, including four Champions League titles, two La Liga titles, and one Copa del Rey. Varane was also named to the FIFPro World XI three times.
Manchester United
In 2021, Varane signed for Manchester United for a fee of £40 million. He has quickly become a key player for the club, and has helped them win the Premier League title and the EFL Cup.
International career
Varane made his debut for the France national team in 2013. He was a key member of the team that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and was named to the FIFA FIFPro World11 that year. Varane has also represented France at the 2012 Summer Olympics, the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and the 2016 UEFA European Championship.
