Personal life

Sanjay Dutt was born on 29 July 1959 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to actor Sunil Dutt and actress Nargis. He has two sisters, Priya and Namrata. Dutt's parents divorced when he was young, and he was raised by his father. He attended The Lawrence School, Sanawar, before moving to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting.

Dutt married actress Richa Sharma in 1987. They had a daughter, Trishala, in 1988. Sharma died of brain cancer in 1996. Dutt married model Rhea Pillai in 1998. They divorced in 2005. Dutt married Manyata Dutt (née Dilnawaz Sheikh) in 2008. They have two children, Iqra and Shahraan.

Dutt has been open about his struggles with drug addiction and bipolar disorder. He has been in and out of rehabilitation centers several times. In 2018, Dutt was diagnosed with lung cancer. He underwent treatment and was declared cancer-free in 2019.

Career

Dutt made his acting debut in the 1981 film Rocky. He went on to star in a number of successful films, including Vidhaata (1982), Naam (1986), Khalnayak (1993), Vaastav (1999), Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003), Lage Raho Munnabhai (2006), and PK (2014). Dutt has also won several awards for his performances, including the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his role in Vaastav.

In addition to his acting career, Dutt has also been involved in politics. He was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, in 2009. He served one term before resigning in 2013.

Controversies

Dutt has been involved in a number of controversies throughout his career. In 1993, he was arrested for possession of illegal weapons. He was sentenced to five years in prison, but was released on bail in 1995. In 2007, Dutt was convicted of illegal possession of arms under the Arms Act and sentenced to six years in prison. He served three years of his sentence before being released on parole in 2010.

Dutt's personal life has also been the subject of much media attention. His marriage to Richa Sharma was marred by domestic violence. He has also been accused of extramarital affairs.
