Morgan Freeman (born June 1, 1937) is an American actor, director, and narrator. He is one of the most respected and celebrated actors in the history of Hollywood. Freeman has won numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Freeman was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to Mayme Edna (née Adair), a teacher, and Morgan Porterfield Freeman, a barber. He has three older siblings. Freeman grew up in Mississippi and Indiana. He attended Jackson State University for two years before dropping out to pursue an acting career.

Freeman began his acting career in the early 1960s, appearing in small roles in theater productions and television shows. He made his film debut in the 1971 film Who Says I Can't Ride a Rainbow!.
