Daniel MacPherson (born 25 April 1980) is an Australian actor, singer, and television presenter. He is known for his roles as Joel Samuels in the Australian soap opera Neighbours (1999–2002), Daniel Sutherland in the drama series Wild Boys (2011), and Ben Lawson in the American drama series Strike Back (2012). He has also hosted the Australian version of the reality show The Voice (2012–2013) and the Australian version of the game show Australia's Got Talent (2016).
Early life and education
MacPherson was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He attended the Sydney Grammar School and the University of Technology, Sydney, where he studied business and law.
Career
MacPherson began his acting career in 1999, when he was cast as Joel Samuels in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. He played the role for three years, before leaving the show in 2002. After leaving Neighbours, MacPherson appeared in a number of television shows and films, including the Australian drama series The Secret Life of Us (2003), the American drama series Brothers & Sisters (2006), and the Australian film The Condemned (2007).
In 2011, MacPherson starred in the drama series Wild Boys, which was based on the novel by Tony Park. He played the role of Daniel Sutherland, a former soldier who is now a private investigator. The series was a critical and commercial success, and it was renewed for a second season in 2012.
In 2012, MacPherson joined the cast of the American drama series Strike Back. He played the role of Ben Lawson, a former SAS captain who is now working for a private security company. The series was a critical and commercial success, and it was renewed for a second season in 2013.
In addition to his acting career, MacPherson has also hosted a number of television shows, including the Australian version of The Voice (2012–2013) and the Australian version of the game show Australia's Got Talent (2016). He has also appeared in a number of music videos, including "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera (2002) and "The Way I Am" by Eminem (2002).
Personal life
MacPherson is married to actress Zoe Ventoura. They have two children together.
