Cillian Murphy (born 25 May 1976) is an Irish actor. He is known for his roles as Tommy Shelby in the BBC crime drama Peaky Blinders, Dr. Jonathan Crane / Scarecrow in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, and Robert Fischer in Christopher Nolan's Inception. Murphy has also starred in films such as 28 Days Later (2002), Cold Mountain (2003), Batman Begins (2005), The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006), Sunshine (2007), The Edge of Love (2008), In Time (2011), Anna Karenina (2012), Transcendence (2014), Anthropoid (2016), Dunkirk (2017), A Quiet Place Part II (2021), and Oppenheimer (2023).

Murphy was born in Douglas, County Cork, Ireland. He began his acting career in theatre, appearing in productions of Disco Pigs and Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme. Murphy made his film debut in The Acid House (1998) and gained wider recognition for his roles in 28 Days Later (2002) and Cold Mountain (2003).

Murphy's breakthrough role came in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins (2005), in which he played the villain Scarecrow. Murphy reprised the role in the sequels The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012). Murphy also starred in Nolan's Inception (2010), in which he played Robert Fischer, a wealthy businessman who is the target of a heist.
