Meryl Streep (born June 22, 1949) is an American actress. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest actresses of all time. Streep has won three Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, two British Academy Film Awards, two Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award. She is the only actress to have won three Academy Awards in three different categories (Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Original Song).
Streep was born in Summit, New Jersey. She attended Vassar College and Yale School of Drama. She made her professional acting debut in 1971 in the play "The Playboy of Seville."
Streep's breakthrough role came in the 1978 film The Deer Hunter. She went on to star in a number of successful films, including Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), Sophie's Choice (1982), Out of Africa (1985), Ironweed (1987), A Cry in the Dark (1988), Postcards from the Edge (1990), The Bridges of Madison County (1995), One True Thing (1998), Music of the Heart (1999), Adaptation. (2002), The Devil Wears Prada (2006), Mamma Mia! (2008), Julie & Julia (2009), The Iron Lady (2011), Into the Woods (2014), Florence Foster Jenkins (2016), The Post (2017), Mary Poppins Returns (2018), and Little Women (2019).
Streep is also a successful stage actress. She has won two Tony Awards for her performances in the plays "A Little Night Music" (1979) and "Angels in America" (1993).
Personal life
Meryl Streep is married to sculptor Don Gummer. They have four children together: Henry, Mamie, Grace, and Louisa. Streep is a vocal supporter of the Democratic Party. She has donated money to Democratic candidates and has campaigned for them. Streep is also a supporter of environmental causes. She is a board member of the Natural Resources Defense Council and has spoken out against climate change.
