Tomáš Tatar

Tomáš Tatar (born December 1, 1990) is a Slovak professional ice hockey forward for the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has previously played for the Detroit Red Wings, Vegas Golden Knights, and Montreal Canadiens.

Tatar was born in Ilava, Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia). He began playing hockey at the age of four. He played junior hockey in Slovakia with HK 36 Skalica and HK Dukla Trenčín before being drafted by the Red Wings in the second round, 60th overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Tatar made his NHL debut with the Red Wings during the 2010–11 season. He scored his first NHL goal on October 20, 2010, against Jean-Sébastien Giguère of the Colorado Avalanche. He finished the season with 11 goals and 13 assists in 74 games.

In the 2012–13 season, Tatar was a key member of the Red Wings' line with Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. He scored 13 goals and 20 assists in 48 games before being sidelined with a broken hand. He returned to the lineup in time for the playoffs, where he scored 4 goals and 3 assists in 14 games.

Tatar continued to be a productive player for the Red Wings in the following seasons. He scored 20 goals and 21 assists in 78 games in the 2013–14 season, and 15 goals and 21 assists in 74 games in the 2014–15 season.

In June 2015, Tatar was traded to the Golden Knights in the expansion draft. He spent two seasons with the Golden Knights, scoring 36 goals and 39 assists in 144 games.

In July 2018, Tatar was traded to the Canadiens in a package deal for Max Pacioretty. He scored 20 goals and 21 assists in 82 games in his first season with the Canadiens.

In July 2021, Tatar signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the Devils.

Tatar has represented Slovakia at the World Championships on multiple occasions. He won a silver medal at the 2012 World Championships and a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships.

Personal life

Tatar is married to Barbora Tatárová. They have two children together.

Tatar is a devout Christian. He is involved in several charitable organizations, including the Red Wings Foundation and the Slovak National Hockey Foundation.
